Rosensaft: It is our duty to say 'no' to Dodik or Handke every time they deny the genocide in Srebrenica

(Patria) - For promoting the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica, the Senate of the University of Tuzla today awarded the Vice President of the World Jewish Congress, Menachem Rosensaft, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa.

In the show Federacija danas on Federal Television, Rosensaft spoke about the responsibility of criminals, as well as those who deny genocide, forgiveness, and the importance of preserving memory.

- The only ones who have the right and power to forgive are those who were killed, and we have no right to speak on their behalf. Those who committed the crime - whether in Srebrenica, Auschwitz, or Jasenovac - are unworthy of forgiveness.

We must ensure that they are not forgiven and that they are not glorified in our society today by those who consider their crimes a legitimate way of behaving - said Rosensaft.

He emphasizes that the existence of a mural depicting Ratko Mladić is a glorification not only of the individual but also of the crimes he committed - and that is unacceptable.

- One can never do enough to ensure that the memory of the terrible past of Srebrenica or Foča becomes woven into eternal memory. The problem today is not so much whether we have done enough, but rather what we need to do in the future - stated Rosensaft.

(Patira) - Potpredsjednik Svjetskog jevrejskog kongresa Menachem Rosensaft obratio se danas na komemoraciji povodom 28. godišnjice genocida u Srebrenici, ukopa i dženaze još 30 žrtava srebreničkog genocida.

- We must be aware and notice individual persons, persons with a name, a story, a past, what happened to them, how a boy was separated from his mother - and how a mother watches her boy, a boy with a name, as he is led away at gunpoint, and how both know they will never see each other again - Rosensaft stresses.

He adds that the same must happen with the Jews killed in Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen.

- We must reduce those numbers to the number 1, followed by another number 1, then another number 1... Until we are eight thousand times aware of the number 1. And six million times aware of the number 1 - he stated.

According to him, those who deny the genocide in Srebrenica, as well as those who deny and distort the Holocaust, become subsequent accomplices in those crimes.

- It is our duty that every time Milorad Dodik or Peter Handke make a claim denying Srebrenica - we say no, you are wrong - Rosensaft concluded.
