Parents of Alma Suljić: 'We don't know what was worse, when we buried our child or today'

(Patria) - Edin and Adela Suljić, parents of doctor Alma Suljić, who was killed by a car driven by Armin Berberović, addressed the media after Berberović pleaded not guilty at the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo for the death of Suljić and another doctor, Azra Spahić.

The parents have a clear message and want Berberović to receive the maximum prison sentence.

“We do not agree to any deals, concessions, and we demand the maximum legal prison sentence. We appeal to all institutions to urgently change the law so that for such offenses and such road rage, the sentence would be at least doubled. 20 years is really laughable for these two murders,” said Alma's mother, Adela Suljić.

Alma's father added that he was shocked after Berberović pleaded not guilty.

“I don't understand how someone can plead like that after all these events and everything we and the other family have been through, and this is yet another stress. I thought there was a crumb of humanity and decency, but I was wrong. This is painful and stressful, and I compare it to the day of the accident,” Edin Suljić said bitterly.

Alma's mother added:

“I don't know what was worse for me, when the accident happened, when we buried our child, or today, to experience something like this. I don't know…”

Let us recall, Berberović is accused of killing doctors Azra Spahić and Alma Suljić in a horrific traffic accident on May 26 this year. The accident occurred at 11:30 PM in Marindvor, where he killed doctor Azra Spahić with his vehicle and injured two young women. Alma Suljić succumbed to her injuries nearly a month after the accident.

After the accident, it was determined that Berberović had 0.41 per mille of alcohol in his blood and was driving under a driving ban, N1 reports.
