Rome: Bećirović initiated proposal for the Italian Parliament to adopt a resolution supporting the independence and sovereignty of BiH

(Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović spoke with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Italy Lorenzo Fontana during an official visit to the Republic of Italy.

During the conversation, Chairman Bećirović and President of the Chamber of Deputies Fontana emphasized that the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Italy are very good and friendly. It was stated that there is additional room for further improvement of relations in the fields of economy, culture, education, connecting cities and regions, in joint action through international organizations, and fostering direct contacts between citizens of the two countries.

Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović highlighted the importance of strengthening the relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Republic of Italy, a member and founding country of the EU and NATO. Italy is also a member of a number of regional initiatives, such as the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR), and the Central European Initiative (CEI).

Bećirović said that the Republic of Italy plays an important role in promoting stability and prosperity in the region, and provides significant support to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina in its reform processes, as well as in its European and Euro-Atlantic integrations. Its commitment to regional cooperation and bilateral relations contributes to strengthening peace and security, as well as the economic development of the entire region. He also proposed to the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Italy that the Italian Parliament adopt a resolution supporting the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Italy Lorenzo Fontana emphasized that Italy is particularly committed to promoting the European and Euro-Atlantic integrations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, providing technical and advisory assistance in the reform process. He stated that Italian parliamentarians are well-informed about the challenges facing Bosnia and Herzegovina and are ready to contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Bećirović expressed satisfaction that this is the second time he has spoken with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament in Rome, as he had a conversation with President Laura Boldrini eleven years ago as the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament. On that occasion, he emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening the ties between the two countries.
