Rifat ef. Fejzić elected Reis of the Islamic Community in Montenegro

Rifat ef. Fejzić has been re-elected as the Reis of the Islamic Community in Montenegro, Montenegrin media reported, as carried by the news agency Patria. Ef. Fejzić, who headed the Islamic Community in the previous term, was the only candidate for the new Reis, so his election was not in question.

The Reis is the highest religious leader of Muslims in a country, heading the Islamic Community of that country. He is elected by a special electoral body consisting of members of the Islamic Community Assembly, chief imams, the director of the madrasa, members of the Meshihat, and the president of the Ilmije Association, which gathers imams in the country.

The Reis in Montenegro is elected for a term of six years.

According to the 2011 census, more than 100,000 followers of the Islamic faith live in Montenegro, who declare themselves as Bosniaks, Albanians, Muslims, Montenegrin Bosniaks, Montenegrin Muslims, and in other ways, writes NAP.
