Fishermen beware, floods have brought larger quantities of mines to riverbanks

Due to the appearance of increased quantities of mines and other unexploded ordnance on riverbanks, the Federal Civil Protection Administration warns of caution when moving in these areas.

As a result of rivers overflowing their banks last month due to heavy rainfall in Bosnia and Herzegovina, an increased number of unexploded ordnance has been observed on riverbanks. Experts fear that there could be an increase in accidents caused by the activation of these explosive devices.

Unexploded ordnance could be particularly dangerous for fishermen, who most often venture into inaccessible parts of the riverbanks.

- Citizens are obliged to report all findings of potentially dangerous objects to cantonal operational centers of civil protection via phone number 121 or to the local police station via phone number 122 – announced the Federal Civil Protection Administration.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1,500 people have lost their lives to mines left over from the conflict after the aggression, but this number could now increase after the floods, reports Patria.
