Rector Škrijelj: Greater alignment between UNSA and the founder is needed

Rector of the University of Sarajevo Rifat Škrijelj told the Patria agency that a series of amendments to the proposed text of the Draft Law on Higher Education will be determined at today's Senate session, which will then be forwarded to the KS Government.

- We will forward them to the KS Government so that, in the preparation of the draft law before the Assembly, we can contribute to improving the text of the proposed law. I believe that the proposed text should be significantly improved in the coming days and that a functional document, urgently needed by the academic community, should be obtained – said Škrijelj.

He stated that UNSA will contribute to improving the text and believes that a greater degree of agreement should be reached between UNSA and the founder on certain issues.

- For example, regarding the composition of the Management Board, then some issues that concern the status of students, financing, etc. I believe that some issues from the law should be removed from the draft and left for the academic community to regulate by statute or by-law. For example, the status of students, checking students' knowledge – etc.

When asked whether professors should be allowed to teach at both private and public universities, Rector Škrijelj said that the academic community should decide on this internally, but that private faculties are direct competitors to UNSA.
