(Patria) - The Grand Mufti of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein-ef. Kavazović, on Friday, as part of the celebration of 30 years of renewed work of the Bihać Muftiship, visited the Madrasa "Reis Džemaludin-ef. Čaušević" in Cazin, where he attended a ceremonial session of the Teaching Council.
This visit marked the beginning of the program celebrating the 30th anniversary of this school, during which numerous activities will be carried out over the next year.
On behalf of the Madrasa staff, the director of this school, Zuhdija Handanović, welcomed the Grand Mufti, while his assistant for teaching, Mehmed Mašić, presented the school's history, focusing on specific dates, significant details, and representative activities.
The Bihać Mufti, hafiz Mehmed-ef. Kudić, on this occasion presented the work of the Madrasa to the Grand Mufti, emphasizing that its employees have grown in line with the growth of the school itself.
"We must be grateful to Almighty God for the opportunity to begin celebrating the jubilee in this way, with the presence of our Grand Mufti and his meeting with the professors. All these dates we are celebrating remind us of a difficult time, the year 1993, when the work of the Bihać Muftiship was renewed and the work of educational institutions began. All our madrasas, including this one, which is the pride of the Bosanska Krajina region, are schools that have been returned to their initial position, the upbringing and education of young people. Before you is a young staff that has shown it can contribute to the work of the Islamic Community and achieve visible results," said Mufti Kudić.
Grand Mufti Kavazović congratulated the 30th anniversary of this school, particularly highlighting its contribution to the overall mission of the Islamic Community.
"I am very satisfied with what the Madrasa has achieved, and all of us within the Islamic Community can be proud of its work. I believe that madrasas are currently among the best schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Many of them have been among the most successful in their respective cantons for years, which is recognition for you as employees, your director, and the mufti. A generational shift is also visible, so alongside experienced professors, there are younger employees who, I believe, continue the mission of those who preceded them," stated Grand Mufti Kavazović.
He also reflected on the significance that alumni of madrasas and Islamic faculties have within the social context they belong to.
"The imam cadre that emerged from our madrasas and faculties has certainly contributed to preserving the identity of Bosniaks, as well as the Islamic spirit that was sometimes difficult to preserve in this part of Europe. I will ask you, as teachers, to be those who help young people find their way," said the Grand Mufti.
After the ceremonial session, the Qur'an School was opened, whose building is located next to the Madrasa, and which will be available to all those who decide to embark on the path of memorizing the Qur'an. The endower of this facility is mostly Fikret Makić, who said in an interview with the Media Center of the Islamic Community that he is honored to have the opportunity and ability to provide help.
"I have been doing this for twenty years, piece by piece. I have helped churches and museums, working in a way that gives of myself for what is good. Whoever reached out, I responded. I did not look at religion, although I especially helped Muslims. I worked, earned, and shared," said Makić.
The construction of the center will, according to officials and public figures, contribute to the cultural, social, and educational image of the wider community.
"The Qur'an means everything to us, so having a space for its study and teaching new hafizes is significant. By endowing it, Makić has shown that he is a great benefactor and manifests his faith through deeds. He does this by setting aside wealth for what will be useful," emphasized the Mayor of Cazin, Nermin Ogrešević.
The intention is that, alongside the Qur'an School, the Madrasa will open a kindergarten in the coming period.
