Reis Kavazović suspends imam Mekić, who is on the SDA list

The Riyaset of the Islamic Community in BiH has suspended Enijad Mekić, an imam in the Kaćuni community in Busovača, who was on the list of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) in the General Elections on October 12, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

The office of the Reis-ul-ulema Husein ef. Kavazović, regarding the candidacy of Enijad Mekić, imam in the Kaćuni community, Majlis of the Islamic Community Busovača, in the 2014 general elections, issued a press release stating:

- After learning that Enijad Mekić, imam in the Kaćuni community, Majlis of the Islamic Community Busovača, is a candidate in the 2014 general elections for a political party, the Islamic Community has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the said imam for violating the Decision of the Riyaset of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2002, which stipulates that "The Islamic Community does not promote any political party, and holders of religious authority in the Islamic Community cannot hold any political office" - the statement reads, reports Patria.

Reis-ul-ulema Husein ef. Kavazović has requested in writing from the Majlis of the Islamic Community Busovača to suspend Enijad Mekić from his duty as imam in the Kaćuni community until the disciplinary proceedings are concluded, the statement further says, reports NAP.
