Reintegration of Grbavica: Goran Čengić is Sarajevo's Srđan Aleksić

The Sarajevo settlement of Grbavica is remembered by the residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the region, for two details: Grbavica is home to Željezničar's stadium, which almost all residents from the former Yugoslavia have heard of or visited at least once in their lives, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Unfortunately, the second detail is bitter. During the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992-1995), the Army of Republika Srpska occupied and seized one of Sarajevo's largest settlements, holding it occupied until March 19, 1996, when the reintegration of Grbavica took place.

During the aggression against BiH, some of the most horrific crimes during the siege of Sarajevo were committed in Grbavica. From that period, the criminal Veselin Vlahović Batko is remembered, who was sentenced by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of March 2013 to 45 years in prison for crimes he committed in Grbavica against the non-Serb population, i.e., all those people who tried to oppose him in any way.

The monster from Grbavica, as Vlahović is called, also killed the hero Goran Čengić, a well-known handball player for Sarajevo's Bosna, who tried to save his neighbor Dr. Husnija Ćerimagić, a Sarajevo university professor, whom the monster Vlahović also killed.

The date of Grbavica's reintegration is significant for all citizens of Sarajevo, as Grbavica was returned to them after four years of war. Upon returning to Grbavica, citizens found a catastrophic situation; for four years, no one from Grbavica had collected the garbage that had buried the settlement, and not a single brick was intact, writes Patria.
