DF Initiative Realized: Government of TK Supports NUB BiH with 100,000 KM

(Patria) - The Democratic Front (DF) of Tuzla Canton (TK) strongly supports the adoption of the Decision to allocate 100,000 KM to the National and University Library (NUB) of BiH, which the Government of TK adopted at the proposal of the DF's line minister for culture, sport and youth, Damir Gazdić.

The decision to allocate funds to NUB BiH was presented to the authorized representative of that institution, Adisa Žero.

In previous months, there were many activities aimed at creating the legal conditions for allocating funds to NUB BiH. Following the session of the TK Assembly, at which the Law on Budget Execution for 2024 was adopted, the implementation of the Decision to allocate the promised funds commenced.

- We will not allow the collapse of institutions of interest to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The closure of NUB BiH would jeopardize the work of other libraries in BiH and have unforeseeable consequences related to cataloging, as the suspension of this library's operations would also halt the work of 73 Federation of BiH members.



Since COBISS is an inter-library online catalog, a cooperative bibliographic, library system and service, if NUB BiH were to close, all libraries would lose the ability to operate within the system, and to date, 600,000 items have been entered into the system.

NUB BiH is the only institution in the country that has the role of distributing BiH production abroad, based on which other cultural and scientific institutions worldwide gain insight into our scientific research. This would pose a serious challenge for the academic community, especially in the process of advancing to scientific titles - said Minister Gazdić.

He also emphasized that he will do everything within his competencies to save one of the most significant cultural institutions for the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and take concrete steps to support the resolution of NUB BiH's problems to prevent its closure.

After all legal and by-laws were regulated, at the proposal of the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Youth at today's session, the Government of TK adopted the Decision on allocating funds, thus fulfilling Minister Gazdić's promise and providing assistance of 100,000.00 KM for the operation of NUB BiH, announced the Cantonal Board of DF TK.
