War criminal who kept Sarajevo under siege sought release from court

(Patria) - The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), the legal successor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), has rejected the request for early release of Dragomir Milošević, the former commander of the Sarajevo-Romanija Corps of the Army of Republika Srpska.

Milošević was finally sentenced to 29 years in prison for crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war committed during the siege of Sarajevo.

The request for early release was rejected, as were all previous ones since 2017. The key reasons for the rejection remain the gravity of the crimes committed and the lack of sincere admission and remorse by the convict. Victims' associations from Bosnia and Herzegovina once again actively participated in the process, clearly expressing their opposition to Milošević's release. Their persistent struggle for convicted war criminals to take responsibility and tell the truth about their actions continues to have a significant impact on the decisions of the IRMCT.

The victims' associations thanked the President of the IRMCT for understanding and taking their opinion into account in making this decision.
