Uncertainty grows over fate of abducted Croat, ISIL fighters claim they beheaded him

Sources from the Islamic State claim that ISIL militants have beheaded the abducted Croat Tomislav Salopek, reports newsday247. Images of the alleged beheading of Salopek have also appeared online, but their authenticity is questionable. The images published so far allegedly show the execution of David Haines, the son-in-law from Sisak. None of the major world media have reported the execution, reports the Patria news agency.

Uncertainty over Salopek's fate is growing, and sources close to the militants insist that the jihadists killed the 30-year-old Croat who worked for the French company CGG Ardiseis.

The Croatian government and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs continue to work on resolving the case of the abducted Croatian citizen. Vesna Pusić returned to Croatia after a series of talks, including with the Egyptian foreign minister.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that due to the sensitivity of the situation, it cannot disclose further details at this time, and for Index, the Ministry stated they have no information about Salopek's execution.

Meanwhile, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić offered, on behalf of Serbia, assistance to Croatia in efforts to free Tomislav Salopek from Islamist terrorists in Egypt, reports Index.
