Number of leptospirosis cases rising in Sarajevo Canton, three patients hospitalized

(Patria) - The Institute for Public Health of Sarajevo Canton has published an overview of the number of people infected with leptospirosis. Since the declaration of the epidemic on May 23, 64 cases have been reported.

Three patients are currently hospitalized.

What can be seen from the Institute's data is that on June 3, 21 new cases were confirmed, and in the week from May 26 to June 1, there were 22 cases.

The highest number of infected individuals is from the area of Novi Grad, 51, while seven cases are in the area of Centar, three in Ilidža, two in Novo Sarajevo, and one in Stari Grad.

The Institute clarified that epidemiological investigation established a link with exposure in the area of the Novi Grad municipality for two patients from Novo Sarajevo.

The largest number of infected individuals is aged 30 to 65, and more men are affected.

Since the declaration of the epidemic, the Institute has ordered the implementation of anti-epidemic measures, and repeated deratization is being carried out in the focal areas.
