Interpol Warrant Issued for Milojko Kovačević for Crimes in Višegrad

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Interpol has issued a warrant for Milojko Kovačević, whom the State Prosecutor's Office indicted in February 2019 for crimes against humanity committed in the area of Višegrad in 1992.

The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina indicted Kovačević for, as a member of the reserve forces of the Public Security Station (SJB) Višegrad, in June 1992, committing the forcible removal, torture, abuse and beating of Bosniak civilians from the village of Donje Veletovo.

"He is charged with, in June 1992, armed with an automatic rifle, personally participating in the forced relocation of the Bosniak civilian population from the village of Donje Veletovo, when the entire population was forcibly transported towards the area of the Sokolac municipality, where women, children and the elderly were expelled to territory under the control of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and about 50 Bosniak men, escorted by armed members of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) and police, were taken to the site of the 'Paklenik' pit, where they were killed, with only one person surviving the shooting", states an earlier announcement from the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

According to information from the Prosecutor's Office, Kovačević was born in Višegrad and resides in the area of Užice in Serbia.

The indictment against Kovačević was confirmed on February 28, 2019, and the Court's website states that he is unavailable to judicial authorities.
