Competition announced for hiring 200 more police officers in the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior, candidates cannot be older than 27

(Patria) - The Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton - Police Administration has announced a competition to fill vacant positions for police officers in the Police Administration of the MUP KS at the initial rank of "policeman" for an additional 200 positions.

Last year, 195 new police officers were admitted to the Police Administration of the MUP KS, and by the end of the year, the procedure for hiring another 245 police officers, who will then be sent to the Police Academy, as well as the hiring of 30 junior inspectors, should be completed. Concurrently, a competition for another 200 police officers was announced today, all as part of a strategic approach to solving the problem of a lack of human resources in the ranks of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior - Police Administration.

The Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior - Police Administration is facing a shortage of police personnel due to the retirement of a large number of police officers who started their employment during or immediately after the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and who are meeting retirement conditions this year and in the coming years.

"Our ultimate goal is to employ at least 1,000 new police officers by the end of 2026 and thus change the 'blood picture' of the police in Sarajevo Canton by hiring young, professional, and educated personnel, thereby building a strong police force for Sarajevo Canton," stated the Minister of Interior of Sarajevo Canton, Admir Katica. He reminded of the transparent methodology for hiring police officers.

"Since 2021, we have started using a modern application for electronic testing of candidates, which has proven very successful. Candidates take a general knowledge test containing questions from the List of Exam Questions published on the MUP KS website by January 10 of the current year. Upon arrival at the exam, candidates are given instructions and information about their user account and password, which they use to access the application and take the exam. After the exam, the application displays the test results, completely eliminating the human factor and the possibility of any manipulation. The procedure also includes audio and video recording of each phase of the competition, video surveillance, and after completion, the materials are archived in a prescribed manner. This methodology has also been adopted by our colleagues from the MUP BPK Goražde, and recognized and praised by Transparency International," stated Minister Katica.

He called on all young people who meet the competition requirements to apply.

"Police officers of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior - Police Administration serve citizens and do a responsible job of protecting the lives and property of our citizens. Therefore, I call on all honorable, honest, educated young people to join the Sarajevo Canton police and choose this honorable profession. I especially invite women, of whom we unfortunately do not have enough in the police, to take this opportunity and apply for the competition," said Minister Katica.

After passing the general knowledge test, candidates who have passed take a physical fitness test that includes four disciplines: beep test, push-ups, sit-ups, and standing long jump. Those who achieve the highest number of points are sent for a medical examination, which includes a complete physical examination as well as psychological processing.

After all procedures, the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) conducts security checks for all candidates, which last several months. After all checks, a final list is compiled, and candidates sign employment contracts and are sent to the Police Academy for training lasting seven months. In practice, from the announcement of the competition to taking up the position of police officer, a period of one and a half years is required.

The competition for hiring 200 new police officers will be open for 30 days and is available at www.mup.ks.gov.ba. Candidates wishing to apply cannot be older than 27, must have completed at least a fourth level of education, be physically and mentally capable of performing police duties, and must not have been dismissed from any position in state administration bodies or institutions, nor have criminal proceedings pending against them, etc. The entire competition procedure is conducted by the Selection Commission.
