Radončić determined to resolve migrant crisis, will Galić follow?

A. Čorbo-Zećo

BiH Security Minister Fahrudin Radončić said on Monday in Zagreb that economic migrations are not a humanitarian issue and that he will do everything to prevent BiH from becoming a parking lot for migrants, and his first diplomatic visit outside BiH, specifically to Croatia, was assessed by experts as the minister's determination to finally resolve the issue of illegal migrations.

He emphasized that he will do everything in our power to make the route through BiH no longer attractive for all migrants and that they will avoid us. The determination with which he appeared in Croatia is also reflected in his statement that „everyone in BiH and the region will have to show solidarity. If the EU and we do not reach an agreement, we will be in trouble.“

The question now is to what extent Radončić will be followed in this determination by the directors of police agencies, primarily I mean Zoran Galić, the director of the Border Police of BiH. The migrant crisis in BiH has been ongoing for almost three years, and the first man of the Border Police of BiH, Zoran Galić, only woke up in the last year and realized the reality that the BiH Border Police cannot adequately respond to the increasing influx of migrants.

Galić seeks culprits in the state, temporary financing, insufficient equipment, and everything else, avoiding any personal responsibility.

Despite the crisis, which is becoming more complex every day, Galić finds time for numerous media appearances in which he blames the state for the migrant crisis, forgetting that the police agency he heads is also part of the state and that he should do everything to protect it, at least along the 1,600 km of border. First, Radončić should resolve this relationship, and for the benefit of the state of BiH and all citizens, I hope he sees it correctly. I want to believe that this spring the problem will finally be approached as it truly deserves.

Until now, instead of daily coordination and activities with former Minister Dragan Mektić, Galić had a constant conflict with him, claiming that Mektić was lying about illegal intrusions by the Croatian border service into the territory of BiH and violations of BiH's territorial sovereignty.

If Radončić fulfills his announcements that he will not bow to anyone, including Croatia, Galić could be a problem in the solution.

For Radončić's announcement that BiH will not be a "parking lot for migrants" to succeed and be achievable, all agencies and all directors will have to cooperate; otherwise, BiH will continue to be a parking lot and hot spot for migrants.
