Radončić: Small comfort for victims and a great victory for Bosnia and Herzegovina

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The President of the Alliance for a Better Future, Fahrudin Radončić, commented on today's verdict against Radovan Karadžić.

"I consider the final verdict against Radovan Karadžić a historic turning point for the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all its peoples and citizens, and especially for the victims of aggression against BiH. The verdict represents at least partial satisfaction of justice for hundreds of thousands of victims of the criminal policy led by Radovan Karadžić, and a great lesson to all those who, more than two decades later, still downplay and relativize the scale of war crimes and the internationally judicially proven responsibility of the military and political leadership of Bosnian Serbs during the nineties.

With the final conviction of the first man in the implementation of genocide, mass killings, persecution, rape, and destruction, justice has triumphed over dark propaganda, and the monstrous war criminal Radovan Karadžić will be remembered in world history as the worst inspirer, instigator, and leader of crimes against humanity. Never and nowhere will any denial, minimization, or relativization of this fact change the final and established truth.

The verdict against Radovan Karadžić is a final warning to all those who still relativize war crimes and glorify war criminals, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in neighboring countries. That populist, retrograde, and destructive policy has once again been defeated today and characterized internationally as criminal.

Today's verdict cannot be a great satisfaction for the families of the victims or the survivors of genocide and wartime suffering, but it is a strong prerequisite for genocide never to happen again, to anyone, anywhere. This decision of the international court should undoubtedly contribute to establishing the final truth and responsibility regarding wartime events, but also to building trust and reconciliation among the peoples in BiH, and to stabilizing political and overall social conditions, both in BiH and in the region," said Radončić.
