Radončić and Galić Discuss Strengthening the Eastern Border

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Following announcements that the Republic of Turkey has decided to open its borders and thus allow migrants towards the European Union countries, the Director of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zoran Galić, and the Minister of Security of BiH, Fahrudin Radončić, met on February 28, 2020, and discussed the situation at the state border, with an emphasis on the eastern border, as well as measures that need to be taken to respond as effectively as possible to the pressure of illegal migrants, it was announced from the Border Police of BiH. 

Although all available human and material-technical resources have been redeployed to the eastern and northeastern parts of the border, Director Galić stated that further redeployment of police officers of the Border Police of BiH will be carried out along all lines of work in order to protect the state border, and that an additional number of police officers have already been sent to the eastern part of the border, including mobile units of the Border Police of BiH.

In addition to the above, they also discussed the necessity of increasing support from other police agencies in monitoring the border area. Currently, the Border Police of BiH receives assistance in monitoring the state border from officers of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies, the State Investigation and Protection Agency, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska.

Minister Radončić stated that the Border Police of BiH and competent BiH institutions will have the full support of the Ministry of Security of BiH in their work and emphasized the importance of improving coordination and involving all levels of government for more effective management of the migrant situation in BiH.
