Healthcare workers in Sarajevo Canton protest in front of the Government building, demand increase in hourly wage

(Patria) - Healthcare workers in Sarajevo Canton are gathered in front of the Government building of Sarajevo Canton because the Government has not increased their hourly wage as the Union demanded.

A large number of healthcare workers are in front of the Government, and they demanded an increase from 3.07 to 3.70 KM.

The Government of Sarajevo Canton issued a statement on September 5, stating that they would soon come up with a new proposal, and after that did not happen, the workers took to the streets in protest.

The Government had previously offered 3.25 KM, but the Union did not accept it.

Workers claim that the Health Insurance Institute of Sarajevo Canton has sufficient funds to increase the hourly wage.

"I received information that the Government of Sarajevo Canton is holding an emergency session at 10 a.m. this morning to discuss the amount of the hourly wage for healthcare workers in Sarajevo Canton. We will see what their conclusion will be. We are going out to protest as we previously announced from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and we will probably remain in front of the Government building until further notice, until our only demand, which is an increase in the hourly wage to 3.70 KM, is accepted. We will set up a tent in front of the Government and stay until further notice," said Senad Sadiković, president of the Union of Healthcare Workers of Sarajevo Canton, for Faktor.
