BHRT workers hold warning protest, general strike possible

(Patria) - BHRT workers held a warning protest today to highlight the catastrophic financial situation they are in.

Representatives of the Independent Union of Workers Employed at BHRT said that if today's protest does not achieve the desired result, they will take steps towards organizing a general strike, in accordance with legal procedures.

BHRT workers, who have not received their salaries for 50 days, have had taxes unpaid for years, pensioners cannot exercise their rights, and employees' livelihoods and right to dignified work are threatened.

Support from government representatives has remained declarative, and numerous promises to help resolve the issue of BHRT's economic survival have remained unfulfilled.

At today's warning protest, workers received support from numerous organizations and colleagues from other unions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The President of the Union of Independent Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Selvedin Šatorović, offered assistance in organizing any future protests, not in the RTV building, but in front of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We remind you that the money collected from the RTV fee in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina remains "frozen" in the account of Elektroprivreda BiH, because there is no agreement on the fair distribution of funds between the management of BHRT and Federal Television.

In the meantime, politicians promise but do not take responsibility.

As of yesterday, BHRT has canceled 17 shows from its program, and some have been shortened.

The list of 15 shows being canceled includes "Jedan", "Odbrojavanje", "Putevi zdravlja", "Nova avantura", domestic documentary program, "Propuh", "Thinking Box", "Art Depo", "Moja zemlja", "DVS - Filmski festival u Kanu", "Identiteti", "Global", "Konačno petak sa Majom Miralem", "Inbox", "Trend", while the show "Jutro za sve" will last two hours instead of three.
