Path of freedom and independence: March 1 marked by laying flowers and reciting Fatiha

By laying flowers at the Kovači cemetery, the Eternal Flame memorial, and the memorial to the murdered children of besieged Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina's Independence Day was marked today in Sarajevo, reports the news agency Patria.

Numerous delegations laid flowers and recited the Fatiha, with representatives from all levels of government, including Bakir Izetbegović, a member of the BiH Presidency.

- Twenty-four years ago, over two million citizens of BiH at a historic crossroads chose the path of freedom and independence - Izetbegović emphasized.

The referendum, held on this day in 1992, saw a turnout of 64.3 percent of eligible voters, with 99.4 percent voting for the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Unfortunately, today March 1 is only observed in one part of our country - the Federation of BiH. The other BiH entity, the Republika Srpska, does not recognize this date and its significance.
