First Deputy High Representative on introductory visit to CBBH

Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) Senad Softić received today in Sarajevo for an introductory visit the First Deputy High Representative and Supervisor for Brčko District Mr. Bruce G. Berton, reports the Patria News Agency.

In a conversation with Governor Softić, Mr. Berton expressed the full support of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) for the work of the CBBH, and pointed out the importance of respecting the independence of the CBBH, which, among other things, affects its success.

Expressing gratitude for the support of the international community to the CBBH, Governor Softić presented Mr. Berton with key economic indicators, according to which BiH expects a slight economic growth this year. As positive indicators, the Governor also highlighted monetary stability, as one of the prerequisites for economic development, and the growth of foreign exchange reserves. The two biggest problems of the BiH economy are the high level of external debt and the high unemployment rate.

Regarding the activities of the CBBH, Governor Softić emphasized that by the end of the year, a strategic plan of CBBH activities will be adopted, which will also contain strategic goals. The main goal of the CBBH is to preserve monetary stability within the currency board.
