First Beekeepers' Symposium in Sarajevo on December 16 and 17

The Association of Beekeepers' Unions of Sarajevo Canton is organizing the First Beekeepers' Symposium on December 16 and 17 at the Hotel Hills in Ilidža, where beekeepers and experts from various fields will draw conclusions about the state of beekeeping in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and take stances on how to work on improving beekeeping in the country.

The President of the Association, Samir Omerović, said that bees in Bosnia and Herzegovina are endangered and that the Association wants to contribute to the protection of bees in the country.

- In this regard, the First Symposium of Beekeepers of KS will be held, where we will show the real problems of beekeepers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and thus try to respond to future challenges - said Omerović during a press conference today in Sarajevo.

Experts from the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, and Forestry in Sarajevo, as well as experts from the Institute of Dr. Vaso Butozan from Banja Luka, will speak about the problems of beekeepers at the two-day Sarajevo symposium.

On the second day of the symposium, experts in bee protection and honey production from Croatia and Slovenia will address the beekeepers.
There are no precise data on the number of beekeepers and the number of hives in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Approximate data indicate that there are about 400,000 bee colonies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Beekeepers in Bosnia and Herzegovina lack legal regulations, quality incentives, and systematic state supervision of beekeeping and honey production, as is the case in neighboring countries.
