First Promotional Tourist Train Departs from Sarajevo to Vareš

(Patria) - The first promotional tourist train departed from Sarajevo towards Vareš this morning.

It is a joint project of the Railways of the Federation of BiH, the Municipality of Vareš, and the Tourist Board of the Zenica-Doboj Canton.

The goal is to promote the natural beauty, rich cultural and historical heritage, industrial legacy, and local gastronomy of this region.

Passengers will have the opportunity to enjoy a ride on an old diesel hydraulic locomotive with adapted Swedish carriages, through the beautiful nature along the Stavnja River valley.

The railway line is 50 kilometers long, passing through 20 tunnels and over 11 bridges.

Before the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, this line transported about one million tons of goods annually and around 300,000 passengers.

The section of the line from Podlugovi to Vareš was renovated last year in cooperation with the company Adriatic Metals.

Earlier, it was announced that the train departs from Sarajevo at 9:15 AM, while the return from Vareš is scheduled for 5:15 PM.
