First-graders from Sedrenik received tablets for work

The mayor of the Old Town Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, today presented tablets for computer science classes to first-graders attending the branch school in Sedrenik. Given that computer science has been introduced as a compulsory subject in the first grades of elementary schools, where there are not enough computers and other equipment, working with students is quite difficult, reports the Patria agency.

The elementary school "Mula Mustafa Bašeskija" received an "electronic" classroom from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, equipped at the beginning of the school year. However, the classroom is in the central building, on Logavina Street, while the students of the branch school in Sedrenik did not have such conditions.

- We managed in various ways, and we even took the first-graders to our central school and held computer science classes for them there. It is very difficult when you have children of such a young age, and it is strenuous for them to travel such a distance for one class - said teacher Suada Điver.

The school approached the Municipality for help, and it was not lacking.

- This is the second elementary school to which we have bought tablets for first-graders. Previously, we bought tablets for first-graders at the "Edhem Mulabdić" school - also for a branch school where they had the same problem. Investments like these are, in a way, our obligation because investing in the education of our children is the only chance for this country - said Mayor Hadžibajrić.

There are 31 first-graders in the first grade, and two students will share one tablet, while a laptop has been provided for the teacher.

- Thanks to the laptop, I will be able to control the teaching process in the classroom during the computer science lesson - said teacher Điver.

The branch school in Sedrenik is one of the most beautiful schools in the Old Town, and it was built in 2011. Its construction cost around 3.6 million KM. Of that amount, the Ministry of Education and Science of Sarajevo Canton provided 55% of the funds, and the Old Town Municipality provided the rest. The school has six classrooms, a library, a reading room, a room for extended childcare, a sports hall, and sanitary blocks.
