First coronavirus victim outside China

(Patria) - A man who died in the Philippines is the first person outside China to die from the coronavirus.

The deceased is a 44-year-old Chinese national from Wuhan, the city where the coronavirus was initially discovered. He was likely infected before arriving in the Philippines, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced.

More than 300 people have died from the coronavirus, mostly from Hubei province where Wuhan is located, while more than 14,000 people have been infected.

The US, Australia, and an increasing number of other countries are banning the entry of foreigners from China and placing their own citizens in quarantine.

The number of coronavirus cases has surpassed the SARS epidemic, which emerged in 2003, but the number of deaths resulting from the coronavirus is much lower, indicating it is not as deadly.
