First promotion of foster parents in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The first promotion of a group of foster parents who attended the PRIDE training program was held at the premises of the Cantonal Public Institution Home for Children without Parental Care. On this occasion, the Minister of Labour, Social Policy, Displaced Persons and Refugees of KS Amela Dautbegović, together with foster parent Armo Tanović-Branković, presented certificates to the foster parents who completed this training.

“For me, this is a special event because we have humane people with us who are ready to take children into their homes and provide them with all the necessary care and attention. They have completed the training and will now have the opportunity to be parents to boys and girls who enter the foster care process, until their biological families are strengthened,” emphasized Minister Dautbegović.

There is no reliable data on how many people in the entire Federation live in foster families. According to 2015 data, around 420 children and 80 adults in the Federation were placed in other families. Foster children are mostly placed in kinship families, although there are several cases where families who are not related to the foster child have taken custody of children and the elderly.
