Provocative Johnson called on Parliament to vote no confidence, Bercow called the atmosphere 'toxic'

(Patria) – After the Supreme Court of Great Britain ruled that Prime Minister Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament was illegal, he, at the first session of Parliament after the break, called on lawmakers to vote no confidence in his government.

Johnson spoke with sarcasm and defiance, and his statements provoked strong and negative reactions from lawmakers, especially from the opposition.

Somewhat later, Johnson's party colleague Jacob Rees Mogg also addressed Parliament with a statement that if any opposition leader requested a vote of no confidence, the government would accept it. He emphasized that the offer was 'time-limited'.

Johnson commented that 'the people have had enough' and that 'Parliament must get out of the way or vote no confidence and finally face the voters'.

The atmosphere of the parliamentary session was heated, and the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, asked the members present to 'lower the tone and treat each other as opponents, not enemies'.

– There was an atmosphere I haven't seen in the last 22 years in Parliament... the atmosphere was toxic, Bercow commented.

Johnson himself was most criticized for 'offensive, provocative, and divisive rhetoric'.
