Traditional Martyr's Prayer recited in Solun

(Patria) - A Martyr's Prayer was recited today on the musalla of the mosque in Solun near Olovo, traditionally held on the day the first martyr was buried in the mosque's cemetery.

The host imam, Mujo-ef. Numanović, greeted the present guests, while dr. Samed Omerdić, head of the Service for Religious Affairs and Education, spoke as a representative of the Mufti's Office of Sarajevo.

“At this moment, it is important to remember that martyrs are not a category to be mourned or grieved over. They are a category of people we should be proud of and grateful to,” dr. Omerdić conveyed on this occasion.

He also pointed out that the sacrifice of martyrs reminds us of universal values, and that the Quranic text and the example of Muhammad (peace be upon him) are the courses we follow as Muslims.

The Islamic Community Council (MIZ) Olovo, as the organizer of the program, strives year after year to highlight the significance and contribution of the martyrs of the Olovo battlefield.
“This is a painful date of remembrance for us, but it is also a proud and special day. Today we are here to ask Allah (SWT) to accept the sacrifice of the martyrs, because thanks to their struggle, we bear witness to our faith in freedom today and live in our homeland,” said the chief imam Esad-ef. Pepić.

150 martyrs are buried in the martyr's cemetery in Solun, and one of the messages of the Martyr's Prayer is that the martyr's tombstones remind us of heroism and defense against evil and crime.

“At our prayer sites, we nurture our tradition, express faith in One God, whom we ask for forgiveness of our sins and salvation for our faith and people. Prayers are directed to the Dear God to grant us blessings in the year, love in the family, companionship and mutual help in society, security in the homeland, and hope for a secure and better future,” concluded efendija Pepić.

Traditionally, on this day, members of martyr families, as well as other community members and believers, visit the cemetery and remember the martyrs.

On this occasion, we also spoke with Samir Salibašić, whose father is buried in the Martyr's Cemetery in Solun. He says he tries to attend programs like today's and adjust his own obligations to this date.

“My father was killed in 1993. I come here every year, and I must say that I am honored to be present, knowing that he gave his life for this country.

We know that we must remember all of them in our prayers, by coming to such programs and by mentioning them,” said Salibašić.

In addition to the imams of the Olovo Council, guests from Sarajevo, hafiz Nijaz-ef. Malagić, Mirza-ef. Ganić, and Ahmed-ef. Šadinlija, also performed in the program.
