Expelled from their homes, and now they are being charged war debts!

Grandmother Mejra Glavić, a returnee to Vlasenica, is one of many threatened with water disconnection, writes the Patria News Agency.

Namely, Glavić returned to her hometown shortly after the war, but found her house devastated and looted, and the family who lived in her house also took the water meter.

- We lived without water for the first month, I brought water from the neighbors, we didn't have electricity either, and then we bought a meter which was installed for us by the Vlasenica Waterworks, and now they are asking me to pay 130 KM and they have transferred this alleged debt for the meter to my bill, and now they come every day to disconnect my water – says Grandmother Mejra.

She is literally sitting on the water manhole and does not allow the workers to disconnect her water, saying that she is not to blame for being robbed and for her water meter being taken away.

- I duly bought a new meter, without ever finding out who took mine. I will sit here for months if necessary, but no one will disconnect my water. I am a punctual payer and I pay 10 to 15 KM for water every month. I will guard the water with my own head, but they will not disconnect it. I have no money to pay this debt, which I did not incur – emphasizes Mejra.

Given that Friday is a holiday, no one is answering at the Vlasenica Waterworks, but we have learned that Mejra's case is not the only one, and that returnees have to pay debts incurred during the war by people who lived illegally in their homes.
