Protests in Sarajevo: Gathered highlighted the problem of violence in society

(Patria) - An informal group of students organized a peaceful protest that began at 12 noon in Hastahana, Sarajevo, on the occasion of the horrific murder in Kalesija.

Today, as yesterday in front of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a very small number of citizens gathered at the protest.

"There are more media crews than citizens," said an N1 reporter from the scene.

Those gathered in Hastahana wanted to highlight the problem of violence in society. They also demanded stricter penalties and amendments to the Criminal Code. "Do they need to kill a minister's mother, sister, or daughter for the law to be tightened?" reads one of the banners.

Hanada Maslo, who lost her baby in the eighth month of pregnancy in the floods in Donja Jablanica, unlike many – came to raise her voice against violence. When asked by an N1 reporter how long citizens will be apathetic to problems in society, she replied that she didn't know…

"That's a difficult question. It's not clear to me what else needs to happen for people to say – enough. I'm a little disappointed. We have plenty of reasons to fill this park," said Maslo.

She asked the authorities "how many more women and their own children need to be drowned" before a law on femicide is introduced. She said that, in her opinion, the fairest punishment for such cases, like the horrific crime in Kalesija, would be the death penalty.

"The question is whether the system protects women at all. Violence is reported and no one responds. There are certain people sitting in armchairs and warming themselves, while we are freezing, so while they are warming themselves, they should do something. Or they should leave (the armchairs)," Maslo told N1, adding that citizens should present demands to the authorities, and if they are not met, then block the roads.

We remind you that the murder of Inela Selimović and her minor son in Kalesija shocked Bosnia and Herzegovina. The search for her husband, Emir Selimović, who is suspected of the murder, is still ongoing.
