Student and Pupil Protests: Demanding Public Transport Safety, Joined by Large Number of Citizens and Pensioners

(Patria) - At 12:00, the sixth youth protest began following the tragic tram accident in Sarajevo in which 23-year-old Erdoan Morankić lost his life.

Traffic is blocked in front of the National Museum, from the direction of Ilidža towards Baščaršija.

On behalf of the students, student Lamija Hadžimusić addressed the crowd, reading out specific demands concerning the safety of public transport, especially trams. She also highlighted the issue of the boiler room in the Student Dormitory. They pointed out that there has been no management structure of the Student Center for years.

"When I get on a tram, I feel a fear that is not mine; it is the fear of all of us. I ask myself whether it is worth getting on a tram when I might not get out alive? I demand accountability. Not only for Erdoan, but also for Dženan, for Džana, for every mother and father waiting for their children," she said.

On behalf of high school students, a pupil from the Electrical Engineering School for Energy spoke, saying he wanted to send a message that they all stand together.

"Teachers lock us in schools. They threaten us with lower conduct grades and reprimands," the pupil said.

Numerous citizens also joined the protests today, coming to support the youth in their demands.

Several pupils expressed concern over the safety of old trams. They also recalled other accidents in which lives were lost in Jablanica, Tuzla, Sarajevo...

They stated they will remain at the protests until they receive justice.

The column then set off along the now usual route towards Skenderija, but did not go to the building of the Sarajevo Canton Government; instead, they turned into Hamze Hume Street, from where they will return to the main road towards SCC.
