26 years have passed since the horrific crime in Pionirska Street in Višegrad

VIŠEGARD, (Patria) - Today marks 26 years since the horrific crime in Pionirska Street in Višegrad.

On June 14, 1992, Chetniks, led by the most brutal criminals from Višegrad, Milan Lukić, Sredoje Lukić, and Mitar Vasiljević, forced 65 Bosniak civilians into the house of Adem Omeragić, in Pionirska Street in Višegrad, mostly women and children, where they locked them in and then set the house on fire.

Most of the victims were from the village of Koritnik, where Lukić and Vasiljević came for them and ordered them to get into buses, which were supposedly going to the free territory - Kladanj. Only one person survived with severe physical and psychological consequences.

For the crime in Pionirska Street, Milan Lukić was sentenced to life imprisonment and Sredoje Lukić to 27 years in prison by a final verdict of the Hague Tribunal.

Before the aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lukić lived in Obrenovac - Serbia, Germany, and Switzerland. In the spring of 1992, he returned to Višegrad, where he organized paramilitary units called Avengers (sometimes known as the White Eagles) with the aim of persecuting and exterminating the local population. After the fall of Višegrad on April 12, 1992, he closely cooperated with the Serbian occupation authorities and the Užice Corps of the JNA.

He is directly responsible for the murder of 84 Višegrad residents who were in buses on their way to the free territory (Olovo municipality). He is also responsible for the Uzamnica concentration camp (former JNA barracks in the Višegrad area).

In August 2005, he was arrested in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he lived under a false name - Goran Dukanović, and on February 20, 2006, he was extradited to the International Tribunal in The Hague.
