
(Patria) - Delegations of the Federal Ministry of Interior and the Federal Police Administration today marked the 245th anniversary of the assassination of the Deputy Minister of the Federal Ministry of Interior Jozo Leutar. He was born in 1953 and was killed at the age of 46.
Minister Ramo Isako and FUP Director Vahidin Munjić, along with delegations, laid wreaths at the site of his death at the memorial in Alipašina Street in the Sarajevo neighborhood of Ciglane.
The assassination of Leutar was carried out on March 16, 1999, in Sarajevo's Alipašina Street around 7:45 AM, in the immediate vicinity of the US Embassy. The assassin placed a bomb in the engine of his vehicle. Leutar sustained severe bodily injuries, after which he died on March 28 in Sarajevo.
The investigation into this case was also led by FBI agents, but the masterminds of the murder and the perpetrators themselves were never discovered.
Also in the vehicle with Leutar were driver Željko Ćosić and Ivan Rezo, an employee of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia, Zagreb Police Administration.
The only court proceeding conducted in this case ended on November 12, 2002, with an acquittal for Ivan Andabak, Dominik Ilijašević Como, Zoran Bašić, Željko Ćosić, Jadranko Bajkuša, and Mario Miličević.
