22nd Anniversary of the Fifth Corps of the Army of RBiH Celebrated

The celebration of the 22nd anniversary of the formation of the Fifth Corps of the Army of RBiH (Heavenly Force) began today with visits to cemeteries and memorials, laying flowers, and paying tribute to all those who gave their lives for the defense of BiH, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

A delegation of the Union of Veterans of the Una-Sana Canton and the Mayor of Bihać, Emdžad Galijašević, laid flowers today and paid tribute at the grave of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of BiH, Dr. Irfan Ljubijankić, and the national hero Adil Bešić.

A visit was also made to the central martyr memorials in Cazin, Velika Kladuša, Bosanski Petrovac, Ključ, Sanski Most, Bosanska Krupa, and Bužim. The soldiers of the Fifth Corps made an immeasurable contribution to the liberation of all municipalities in the Una-Sana Canton.

The foundations of the Fifth Corps were laid on October 13, 1992, at a session of the War Presidency of the Bihać District Assembly, convened by the then president, Dr. Irfan Ljubijankić. That night, a decision was made to transform the Una-Sana Operational Group and other units into the Fifth Corps of the ARBiH. The first formation of the command was on October 21, 1993, under the command of General Atif Dudaković. History has recorded that in 1993, the Army of RBiH had 211,036 soldiers in its ranks, and the Fifth Corps had 15,844 soldiers. Over three thousand of the bravest laid down their lives in the liberation of more than one-third of the occupied territory of BiH. Due to the extremely difficult conditions under which it was created and operated, as well as the results achieved, the Fifth Corps is considered one of the best and most glorious corps of the Army of RBiH.

The central event to mark the anniversary of the formation of the Fifth Corps of the Army of RBiH will be organized tomorrow in Bihać, where a ceremonial academy will be held.
