Toll collection system expanded on A1 highway

From Monday, January 5, 2015, the newly opened sections - Sarajevo West – Tarčin and Međugorje – Ljubuški have been included in the toll collection system of the Public Enterprise Autoceste Federacije BiH, writes the Patria news agency.

Thus, tolls for the Sarajevo West – Tarčin section will be collected according to the closed system model, and for the Međugorje – Ljubuški section, the open toll collection system model will apply.

- The closed toll collection system is applied over a length of 80 kilometers from Zenica to Tarčin and, according to European Union (EU) guidelines, is considered a fair toll collection system because the toll price is calculated based on the distance traveled. The system is equipped with modern subsystems for vehicle categorization and classification, making unauthorized/improper use of the highway systemically impossible. The open toll collection system involves collecting a toll for a specific section when passing through a toll booth – say from Autoceste FBiH.

Electronic toll collection has been applied in Bosnia and Herzegovina for two years, in both open and closed toll collection systems, and is carried out via an electronic ACC TAG device. This model allows users to pay tolls without stopping and offers a discount, or a bonus of 20 percent of the value added to the ACC card top-up.

The legal collection and amount of the fee for using the highway are regulated by the Decree on the collection of fees for the use of the A1 highway.
