Konaković's 'Lobbying' Fails: 'Climate Lobbyists' Cannot Accept Money from BiH Businessmen Due to Money Laundering Concerns

“I don’t know anything. Can I call you back later,” Almas Šehić, an alleged BiH lobbyist in America, told us on Saturday afternoon after we asked him if American banks had returned money to Bosnia and Herzegovina that was paid to him for lobbying from unknown addresses, reported Istraga.ba.

That later is still ongoing. We sent messages to “lobbyist” Šehić, called him again on Sunday, but this businessman from Jacksonville no longer answered our calls.

Almas Šehić and his friend Mirza Pilaković found themselves in trouble, as we learned, when payments for “lobbying” were made to their accounts. According to Istraga’s information, this money was collected by entrepreneurs from BiH. However, the problem is that the contracting party was the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH and that the contract stated that “lobbying” for Bosnia and Herzegovina would be carried out free of charge. Therefore, it was unclear to anyone in the banking sector on what basis the entrepreneurs paid money for lobbying, if they had not signed such a contract. And so, in short, Minister Elmedin Konaković’s deal of the century has failed.

This is the contract that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH signed with the Bosnian-American Alliance on March 28.

“The parties,” reads the contract between Konaković and lobbyist Almas Šehić, “agree that, in order to promote the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and strategic interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the consultant (Šehić) will provide the client (Konaković) with expert advisory services and operational support regarding lobbying activities in the United States of America, in accordance with best practices and all applicable laws of the United States of America. The contract further states that these services will be performed – “free of charge”.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Elmedin Konaković, said that the state would not finance this work, but that “businessmen” would. However, this very fact presents a problem, as it is unknown how the money collected by businessmen will be transferred to the “lobbyists” in the US.

Lobbyist Almas Šehić was much more talkative in a “promotional” text published a few days ago on the Klix portal.

“This is a historic moment. Mirza and I started this because we have connections with the Donald Trump administration. This is a continuation of that. The connections have existed for a long time, and the point is that we have had good relations with both Democrats and Republicans for a long time. Unfortunately, our previous governments did not consider lobbying particularly important. That is why I thank Minister Elmedin Konaković.”

Šehić also points out that Dodik has been allocating money for lobbying for many years, but that it has not yielded adequate results for him.

“With this, we will end their lies and present the truths on the political scene in the US about the situation in BiH. Many changes are happening on the world political scene, and BiH is not a priority, but we will try to make it one of the topics that the Donald Trump administration will deal with, of course in a positive sense.”
