21:30 - Negotiations are underway in the Trade Union Hall in Sarajevo between representatives of the Alliance of Independent Trade Unions of BiH and the Prime Minister of the FBiH Government, Fadil Novalić. The two sides are trying to harmonize their positions regarding the new Labor Law, which is expected to be on the agenda of the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH tomorrow, reports the Patria News Agency.
The FBiH Government must adopt a new Labor Law as part of the reforms set forth by the international community, should BiH ever become a member of the EU. However, the law adopted by the Government a few days ago has caused discontent among opposition political parties, as well as trade unions, who believe the law is detrimental to workers.
If the SDA and its allied parties do not withdraw the new Labor Law, the trade unions have announced protests in front of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH building for Thursday.
On the other hand, reputable economic experts believe that the Government's new law is not such a bad solution, and that workers would not lose anything from it, at least those who are not afraid of work. However, they believe that trade unions oppose the new legal solutions because they weaken their influence among workers.
Prime Minister Novalić and trade union representatives will try to reach a solution tonight that would be acceptable to both the trade unions and the Government, writes NAP.
