Promotional Tourist Train Sarajevo–Vareš Starts on July 19: New Route Through Tunnels and Valleys

(Patria) - The Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina inform the public that on July 19, 2025, the first promotional tourist train on the Sarajevo–Vareš–Sarajevo route will depart.

This is a joint project of the Railways of the Federation of BiH, the Municipality of Vareš, and the Tourist Board of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, aimed at promoting the natural beauty, rich cultural and historical heritage, industrial legacy, and local gastronomy of this region.

Passengers will have the opportunity to enjoy a ride on an old diesel hydraulic locomotive with adapted Swedish carriages, through beautiful nature, along the Stavnja River valley. The railway is 50 kilometers long, passing through 20 tunnels and over 11 bridges.

In the coming period, the public will receive more information on how to use the services of this train.

Until the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, this railway transported approximately one million tons of goods annually and about 300,000 passengers.
