Promotion of the book 'Calligraphy and Islamic Culture' by Annemarie Schimmel in the translation of academician Hafizović

At the Ibn Sina Scientific Research Institute in Sarajevo, the book „Calligraphy and Islamic Culture“ by Annemarie Schimmel in the translation of academician Rešid Hafizović will be promoted on Wednesday starting at 17:30, reports the news agency Patria.

In addition to Professor Hafizović, Professor Kerima Filan will also speak about the book.

Annemarie Schimmel (7 April 1922 – 26 January 2003) was an influential German scholar who researched and wrote extensively about Islam and Sufism. Until 1992, she taught at Harvard University and was one of the most recognized international scholars.

Professor Hafizović, who teaches at the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo and translated the work „Calligraphy and Islamic Culture“ by Professor Schimmel, is also one of the more influential scholars in the world.

He completed primary school in Potočari near Srebrenica, then enrolled in the Gazi Husrev-beg Madrasa in Sarajevo, followed by the Faculty of Islamic Studies.
He completed his postgraduate studies in Zagreb at the Catholic Faculty of Theology in 1989, and earned his doctorate at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo in 1993.

He carried out his postdoctoral training at the Institut Catholique in Paris (1990), the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies (1995) in Oxford, and New York State University (1998) in New York as a participant in the Fullbright Program in the field of American history and American religions.
