Amended Indictment Aims to Cover Up and Conceal the Truth from Široki Brijeg

Following the decision of the County State's Attorney's Office in Split to acquit Oliver Knezović of murder charges, Football Club Sarajevo issued an official statement to the public, reports the Patria agency.

- Every fan of Football Club Sarajevo, sports worker, citizen of Sarajevo and the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in fact every normal and moral person, was taken aback by the information about the decision of the County State's Attorney's Office in Split, which amended the indictment against Oliver Knezović, and he is no longer charged with the murder of Vedran Puljić and the wounding of six other of our fans. Given the amendment to the indictment, Knezović is now charged with attempted murder and with a general dangerous act, thereby distorting the events of October 2009 and not presenting them in their true light.

Almost eight years after the unfortunate events in front of the stadium "Pecara" in Široki Brijeg, justice has still not been served to the murderer and other individuals who used weapons in the attack on our club's fans, and Football Club Sarajevo hereby expresses its deep disappointment with the amendment to the indictment, which clearly aims to permanently cover up and conceal the truth from Široki Brijeg. It is a great shame for the legal system and society that the murderer of a young life has still not been prosecuted and punished almost eight years after that horrific act.

Instead of the "rule of law" using its mechanisms, and the judiciary resolving cases and protecting the citizens of this country, we witness scenes year after year such as the suspect escaping from custody, not appearing at hearings, the case being transferred to another country, and we again witness enormous nationalist and fascist chanting full of hatred and everything that belongs in correctional facilities and prisons, not football stadiums.

Football Club Sarajevo stands with its fans in their years-long pursuit of a fair judicial process and the final revelation of the truth about the events of October 2009. The club will allocate financial resources from the proceeds of the upcoming two home games against Široki Brijeg (September 16) and Krupa (October 1) to finance the trial proceedings in this case.

1 KM from each ticket sold from today's match, and the entire revenue from ticket sales at the home match against Krupa, will be directed towards financing the trial. Football Club Sarajevo appeals to the competent authorities to do everything within their jurisdiction and power to bring justice to the murderer of Vedran Puljić.

Today's match against Široki Brijeg, which is being played at Košev in Sarajevo starting at 7 PM, is the derby of this Premier League round, and with the support of the fans, we believe in the victory of Husref Musemić's team. The legal battle should remain in the courtroom, and we must not allow unfortunate scenes and violence to be a part of Bosnian football - it is stated in the statement from FK Sarajevo.
