Internal change or protectorate are the way out for BiH!

Former high-ranking Austrian official and head of the Stability Pact for Southeast Europe Erhard Busek stated in an exclusive interview for the BiH news agency Patria (NAP) that it is too late for another Dayton Agreement for BiH, and that there are only two possible solutions for our country – internal change or a new protectorate.

Otherwise, Busek says, a new war might not occur, but minor conflicts between ethnic groups on the ground and further destabilization are possible.

Busek led the Stability Pact initiative for years, which was founded under the auspices of former United States President Bill Clinton.

- First, I want to say that I respect and understand the citizens' dissatisfaction, and this could have happened earlier. But chaos cannot solve the problems in BiH. This country needs a new generation of politicians, but I am not even in favour of early elections, because new political structures need to be created first. And this is the first of the possible options for BiH. The second is for the EU to create a protectorate in BiH again and put things in order – says Busek.

However, he points out that the latter solution, i.e., a protectorate by the international community, is less likely.

- This is the second, best solution, but I do not see readiness from the US, and especially not from the European Union, to do it. Do not expect much from the EU, because they need a new platform of politicians, and I cannot currently say if I see such ones in BiH. I can only tell the citizens of BiH to get involved in politics and try to change something from within – says Busek.
