Traffic operational from this morning and will not be charged

Before the ceremony itself opening the new ten km section of the highway from Međugorje to Bijača, the director of the Public Company Motorways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ensad Karić, said that this section will be operational from 6 a.m. tomorrow and will not be charged, reporters of the Bosnian news agency Patria report.

What Karić particularly emphasized is that the construction of the section cost 7 million KM less than planned, for which local communities are most responsible.

- The remaining funds will be invested in the reconstruction of local roads in this region. With the opening of this highway, Bosnia and Herzegovina is practically connected to the European highway network. Now, from Split to Međugorje there are actually 120 km, and from Makarska to Međugorje 70 km, which will contribute to many more tourists visiting this area, at least during the summer period - said Karić.

Incidentally, he added that this is not the end of highway construction. By the end of the month, a tender will be announced for the contractor on the Međugorje - Počitelj section.

- There are no obstacles for the construction of new 11 km of road because local communities have given permission for the construction of the largest bridge over the Neretva River, which will be near Počitelj - said Karić.

He pointed out that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which provided its funds for the construction of the highway, said that it is rare to save money during the construction of such projects.
