Two-goal lead squandered: Greeks take a big point from Zenica

(Patria) - The Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team drew 2-2 against Greece in the second round of qualifiers for EURO 2020. Our team opened the match brilliantly. We crowned our excellent play already in the tenth minute when Višća, after a corner, gave the Dragons a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Miralem Pjanić scored a fantastic goal from a free kick for 2-0. In the 23rd minute, Duljević could have finished off the Greeks, but his attempt was blocked. The Greeks shook off the initial shock and threatened in the 27th minute through Donis, but Šehić was secure. In the 32nd minute, the same player had a chance, but he was late on an excellent cross from Fortounis.

Towards the end of the first half, two more chances for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Džeko's shot was stopped by the Greek goalkeeper, while Cimirot's shot was blocked by Sokratis. In the second half, Greece played better, and it paid off in the 63rd minute when Fortounis reduced the deficit to 2-1 from a penalty. The foul was previously committed by Šunjić. Two minutes later, Pjanić received a straight red card for a foul in the middle of the pitch.

In the 68th minute, Kolašinac had a good chance, but it remained 2-1. In the 70th minute, a good move by Džeko and Višća, but Bešić shot wide. A chance for the Greeks in the 77th minute, but Šehić made a great save. In the 84th minute, the Greeks equalised, with the scorer being Kolovos.

There were no further excitements until the end of the match, and the Greeks can be more satisfied with the result in Zenica.

Robert Prosinečki said after the match that we dropped off in the second half, especially after Miralem Pjanić's red card. He noted that he saw it was a penalty for Greece, but he is not sure if Pjanić deserved a red card.

"If we had scored a third goal, this wouldn't have happened, but this is football. In the end, we won a point, nothing is lost. Greece is a good team, very unpleasant for us, and the first half in particular is the way BiH should play," said Prosinečki.
