Co-financing program for extended stay in public elementary schools continues in the 2025/2026 school year.

(Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton, at the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Science, adopted the Program for co-financing the costs of extended stay for students from the first to the fourth grade of elementary schools in the 2025/2026 school year.

Extended stay is organized in 46 public elementary schools this school year and is co-financed from the KS budget.

The Ministry states that this model not only provides financial relief to families but also improves student standards and, ultimately, the quality of education. Parents will pay 140 KM per month, while the difference to the actual costs will be covered by the budget.

- Since the beginning of the co-financing program, extended stay has proven to be a need and interest of the entire society. It provides children with a safe and supportive environment for development, helps parents balance work and family obligations, and brings long-term benefits to society.

That is precisely why we are pleased that the number of extended stays in KS has increased to 52, including six private schools, while there were only 33 three years ago, which clearly shows the growth and increasing interest of parents - stated the Minister of Education and Science Naida Hota-Muminović.

According to her, the goal of the Program is to enable as many children as possible to access extended stay, and for parents to have clear and predictable support.

As in previous years, students attending classes according to an individually adapted program are entitled to free extended stay, including meals, which are fully financed from the KS budget.

The Ministry and the Government of Sarajevo Canton state that they will continue to invest in the development of extended stays, thereby confirming the continuity of the policy of support for this important segment of the educational system.
