"Readiness" episode declared due to renewed air pollution in KS

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The expert body for coordination and supervision of the Intervention Measures Plan in cases of excessive air pollution in KS declared the "Readiness" episode again today for all zones of KS, due to a sudden increase in measured values of pollutants in the air.

The results of measuring pollutant concentrations in the air in the Sarajevo Canton area at all stations show exceedances of the limit values for PM10, ranging from moderate to extremely high.

According to the weather forecast from the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute, stable weather with light winds is expected in the coming days, until Monday, when moderate winds are expected, and rain on Tuesday.

It is reminded that the following measures are being implemented within the "Readiness" episode:
- in Zone A – in the municipalities of Stari Grad, Centar, Novi Grad, Novo Sarajevo, and Ilidža - a ban on the movement of cars and trucks with diesel engines meeting EURO1 standards or lower, below 700 meters above sea level, with intensified controls by inspection bodies and assistance from the Ministry of Internal Affairs,
- in all zones, intensification of road cleaning and washing with the application of wet calcium chloride treatment,
- strengthening of inspection supervision over construction sites,
- reduction of temperature by at least 2°C at all heating facilities from the List of legal and natural persons using solid fuels and heavy fuel oil for heating premises, with a recommendation for a possible switch to natural gas or electricity where technically feasible,
- maximum increase in the capacity of public transport vehicles that do not pollute the environment,

- calling on legal entities to, depending on their capabilities, postpone the start of working hours in order to relieve the capacity of public transport and city roads.
