Detention extended for two more months for Sarajevo police officers

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The Municipal Court in Sarajevo has extended the detention for two more months for police officers arrested as part of the "Dar 1" operation. These are police officers from the Traffic Unit of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs Police Administration, suspected of corruption related to forgiving traffic violations, for which they allegedly took money or other items such as cakes and juices.

"Detention has been extended for all suspects for another two months and can last until 10.11.2020 or until a different decision by the Court," said Amra Hodžić, spokesperson for the Municipal Court in Sarajevo, for Patria.

Although it was stated during the first hearing that this was not an organized group, the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office requested the extension of detention for all police officers who had already spent a month in custody.

The lawyers of the police officers have written appeals and stated that prohibition measures could be imposed instead of detention.

At last night's hearing, some of the police officers also addressed the court, stating that they had been attacked during their stay in detention or that their family members were left without any income or support.
