Read all 3,242 questions BiH must answer to the European Commission

European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn handed over the European Commission's Questionnaire to the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić on December 9th, writes Patria.

The Questionnaire contains 3,242 questions grouped into political and economic criteria and 33 chapters of the European Union's acquis communautaire. The European Commission expects BiH to submit answers to the questions from the Questionnaire in English within six months.

Among other things, the European Commission is interested in:

- How effective are prosecutor's offices and courts in prosecuting criminal offenses related to corruption and economic crime, compared to all other offenses? Are sanctions against corruption, both criminal and administrative, effective, proportionate, and deterrent, and if not, what corrective measures have been taken? Are there additional consequences of convictions for criminal offenses related to corruption, such as termination of public office, prevention of further career advancement, confiscation of profits, etc.?

Are all allegations of corruption systematically investigated, regardless of the status of the suspect/accused (no impunity)?

Also, our country will have to provide answers to questions related to the fight against corruption.

- Is there a national strategy for combating corruption? Was this strategy subject to broad consultations at all levels (e.g., inter-agency consultations with actors in the private sector, civil society, and the media)? What is the status of the adoption of strategic documents, including action plans, at all levels of governance?

A large number of questions relate to the judiciary in BiH.

- Is the composition mixed (members from the judiciary and those from outside)? Do members work full-time or part-time? How long is their mandate? Do members enjoy special privileges? Can the mandate be renewed and who can renew it? What are the requirements for members regarding qualifications? How is career continuation regulated after the mandate expires?

How is accountability ensured in work? How is potential conflict of interest controlled and prevented? If a conflict of interest arises for council members, what rules apply and how is their application ensured?

Marriage, family, religion are also areas of interest for the European Commission.

-Provide information on the legally prescribed age for marriage, broken down by gender. What are your legislative provisions for marriage or registered partnership, if any, that also cover same-sex couples?

What is the constitutional status of religions in Bosnia and Herzegovina? Is there a state religion? Provide statistical data on religiously motivated hate incidents in the last five years, broken down by convictions.
