On the M-18 road, Šićki Brod-Sarajevo, section Kladanj - Podpaklenik, the Karaula tunnel was ceremonially broken through today, reports the Patria News Agency.
The contract for construction works on the "Karaula Tunnel" project was signed at the Public Enterprise Roads of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo in mid-April 2014, and the works began on June 5, 2014.
With the construction of the Karaula tunnel, bridges, and route on the M-18 road, the existing section will be shortened by 3.6 km, and the highest point of the pass will be lowered by one hundred meters. This will shorten the journey between Tuzla and Sarajevo and enable faster movement of people and goods.
- The length of the designed tunnel at Karaula is 902 meters, the contractor is Strabag AG, and the subcontractor is Entea. Supervision of the works is carried out by JV Roughton international Ltd & IPSA Institut with a sub-consultant - Geotehnički studio Zagreb.
The value of the contract is 24,257,083.13 KM, it was announced from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The Karaula Tunnel could be opened by the end of the year.
