Salaries of employees in education in ZDC increased by more than 50 percent

(Patria) - Prime Minister of Zenica-Doboj Canton Nezir Pivić and Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Mirza Mušija met today with the President of the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina Selvedin Šatorović. During the meeting, a joint commitment to continuing social dialogue and concrete activities aimed at improving the status of employees whose salaries are paid from the ZDC Budget was confirmed.

Prime Minister Pivić emphasized that the ZDC Government has increased the salaries of budget beneficiaries twice in the past year and a half, which in some cases, particularly regarding education, meant an increase in total earnings (including salary supplements) of more than 50 percent, the ZDC Press Service announced.

- Our policy is clear - social dialogue, stable public finances, and investment in human resources. The ZDC Government remains committed to the principles of social justice, a partnership with trade unions, and continuous improvement of working and living conditions for all public sector employees - Pivić stated.

Šatorović expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with the ZDC Government so far, particularly highlighting the responsible approach and openness to resolving issues important for workers.

In this context, the payment of annual leave compensation - holiday pay for more than 8,500 employees in education, police, public administration, as well as civil servants and employees in the judiciary was announced. The payment of holiday pay is planned for August 6, and it will be paid in the amount of 50 percent of the average net salary in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which according to the latest published data amounts to around 800 KM.

In the context of recent statements by certain political entities regarding concern about technological surplus of employees in education, trade unionist Selvedin Šatorović said that it was agreed that no worker in primary and secondary schools with an indefinite-term employment contract will end up at the Employment Bureau and that they will be adequately taken care of.

- That excessive concern should have been shown at the time when those political parties were in power and when they had the opportunity to show all their affinity for that profession by increasing salaries, i.e., fighting for a better socio-economic position of workers in education - Šatorović stated, as noted in the announcement.
